Who We Are:
Students Against Food Insecurity is a student organization driven to increase awareness of food insecurity among Tulane students and food deserts in the New Orleans community.
What We Do:
This project seeks to raise funds to supply and stock our community pantry, which is accessible to members of the Tulane community, in our efforts to combat food insecurity. In addition to administering this pantry, SAFI works toward our goals of raising awareness and directly addressing food insecurity by hosting informational meetings, partnering with campus organizations and community organizations with similar purposes, and promoting service events and excursions that directly impact Tulane students and surrounding communities.
Our Why:
Students Against Food Insecurity focuses on combating the prevalence of food insecurity both on Tulane’s Campus and in the greater New Orleans area. In a university setting, poverty often goes unnoticed. More than a third of university students struggle to avoid hunger and lack stable housing, and beyond the campus setting, 1 in 5 New Orleanians are food insecure. The community pantry, for which this fundraiser is requesting donations is housed on Tulane’s campus and prioritizes assisting Tulane students who silently suffer from food insecurity. While Tulane’s on-campus dining service, the Commons, and its programs help with this issue, every student is entitled to the right to have multiple food options and groceries in their homes.
WHERE YOUR DONATION IS GOING:
The proceeds received from your gift can be used to support the supplying of goods for our community pantry in which non-perishable food will be accessible to all on a need-blind, no questions asked basis. Most specifically, the funding would go toward grocery collection for the pantry, so that nutritious options are available to those who lack access. With generous community donations keeping the pantry fully stocked, is a valuable resource for students and community members suffering from food insecurity so that there can be unrestricted access to goods that meet their needs.
Thank you so much for your support!
